Discover Helsinki's Seaside Neighborhood, Where City Life Meets Community Charm
Furnished Apartments and Urban Living in Jätkäsaari
When cargo operations moved to Vuosaari, the city began developing Jätkäsaari, an island off Helsinki, into a residential area and that is just what it has become. It now boosts urban living, with close proximity to both the sea and the city. As the residential neighborhood continues to flourish, so too do the amenities. Still in the final stages of completion, the Jätkäsaari complex is due to be finished by 2030.
If you choose to stay in a Comodo apartment in Jätkäsaari, you’ll be a short walk from the sea, whilst still a 10 minute tram ride from the city center or a short walk to the closest metro station in Ruoholahti. The nice part about Jätkäsaari is it holds both sides of the coin, meaning the possibility to enjoy city life, but also the chance to explore a more communal neighborhood. Back in 2018, the Helsinki City Fair arranged the opportunity for individuals to experience the future of living, with communal spaces, services and courtyards. One such courtyard or rather park and a definite place to visit is the “The Park of Good Hope.”
You can get to Jätkäsaari by tram 9, the metro or a few different buses. However, since I live in Punavuori, I could either walk 15 minutes but I decided to take a taxi due to the snow and ice. I started my trip at The Park of Good Hope. Even if it was the middle of winter, there were still people walking about in the park, people taking their kids to the park and walking their dogs or criss-crossing the park to get home. It’s actually a nice park with a lot of entrances and exits. I enjoyed the views and the modern architecture. This neighborhood reminds me a little bit of a concrete jungle, a little similar to Shanghai, just smaller buildings.
The Park of Good Hope is 550 meters long and 88 meters wide. In the summer it boosts greenery and flowers, setting the scene for recreational activities like lounging about in the summer, whilst serving as transit for cyclists and the courtyard for kindergartens and playground and also includes a dog park.
Apart from its very own park where you can take your kids to the playground, your dog on a walk or go for a morning run, Jätkäsaari has more treasures to be enjoyed by all. Some other popular sites are “The Skyroom” at Clarion Hotel, boosting incredible views over Helsinki and the seaside where you can enjoy a mocktail or cocktail of your liking and The Social Bar and Bistro downstairs, where you can enjoy a hearty meal of your hearts desire, whether that be a burger, fish or vegetarian- they cater to all.
Then you have Verkkokauppa- your go to place for all your household/technical needs. Conveniently located in Jätkäsaari, it’s easy to get to and they even offer delivery within the hour. Here you’ll find any household appliances and even equipment for hobbies. And the shopping experience doesn’t end there. If you’re into second hand shopping, be sure to check out Siistikirppis, a second hand flea market located in the heart of Jätkäsaari.
For my adventure, I decided to go to Siistikirppis, where I purchased a beautiful sparkly hair clip. It’s a pretty big second hand store and they have a nice selection of clothing, shoes and even jewelry.
Then I doodled up the road to Verkkokauppa and took a photo of the Bad Boy Statue.
And after that I went to Clarion Hotel. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t open until 6pm and the Skybar until 4pm so I didn’t make it to those during this adventure. However, I have been to the Skyroom multiple times and loved it- I mean the views are the best in Helsinki and I’ve eaten at The Social Bar and Bistro in other countries and the menu never disappoints, so I recommend both from experience.

If you’re looking for a nice sauna experience, Jätkäsaari has “Uusi Sauna” located at Välimerenkatu 10, a sauna/restaurant combination with 100 seats for customers. Well worth a visit! In case you’d like to enjoy a cocktail after your sauna session, you could always try “Huutokonttori”, a cute and cozy cocktail bar staged like a living room. So if you’re looking for urban living and an apartment that ticks both sides of the coin, the peninsular of Jätkäsaari might just be for you.
